As some of you know, i'm pushing my delivery to labor day week/weekend, just to allow myself enough time to sell my 350z. About 1 week from placing the order and dropping a $1k deposit, I had to remind my SA to give me a call about getting a production number. She called me and asked for 3 possible dates on the 2nd to last week of August. I wanted either one of these 3 dates for delivery 8/25-8/27. I placed the order last week on 3/25. She tells me I won't have a production number till earliest the end of April or sometime in May since the order won't be completed till August? She has the pre-reservation paperwork already filled out with the information for my car build and she will submit to BMW but doesnt expect a production number to be returned for some time.
I was told and I've seen many different people on here get production #s either right away or within 2 weeks from ordering, but their delivery dates are all in the next 2 months, so maybe this information is accurate.
My SA tells me she submitted my order for pre-reservation (whatever that means) and the factory will reply with the actual available date they have based on their schedule. Then I should receive a production number. I thought this would happen right away?
She tells me all 135i sales, including ED are coming out of existing dealer allocation. My best guess is, this is a future order so it'll come out of May, June or July allocation. But does that have anything to do with getting me a production number now? I'd hate to waste a month, potentially get screwed then miss out on allocation from another dealer that could match this price.
It took about eight weeks for me to get my Production number. Placed order in November for an April delivery.
I remember it could take anywhere from 2-4 weeks.
Thank you guys! So an in advance order does take some time to get a production number returned.
One dealer had told me they could put the order in the computer, with notation to the factory that the production could be delayed till 2mo prior to delivery.
I made sure the conversation with my SA ended with, "..as long as you can guarantee I'll have my car end of August in Munich, i'm satisified".
mine took a week to the day...i placed the order in march for august delivery....

AFAIK ED orders don't come out of dealers allocations...
BTW
SA = Service Adviser (a person that you will be dealing with when you bring your car for service)
CA = Client Adviser or simply a sales person that you are talking to now
My CA submitted my pre-reservatin form on 2/27, but I did not hear from him for a month. So I contacted BMWNA ED dept., and they said my pre-reservation was not received. So my CA resubmitted it again on 3/24, and I received a confirmation on 3/26. It took only 2 days.
By the way, my pick up date is 8/15.

For fastest response, ask your dealer to put the request in electronically. Look in this thread: forums/sho...d.php?t=266524
BTW, there's a guy in 1addicts who's had a confirmation for August for several weeks already (he posted the confirmation).

So I followed your advice, and I called BMWNA - and the lady gave me the # and told me to call BMW customer relations...which I did.
WOW, talk about customer centric, he documented the call well...explained to me what one of you mentioned about allocation slots or lack thereof which may be the case in my situation for the month of April. He even said, "would you like me to speak with your CA and dealership and force the issue for you?" Holy crap! I declined for now saying, let me give her a chance, through the end of April for May allocation to see where it goes. He then asked me if my CA instructed me on BMW owners circle, to which I said no. He walked me through the registration process to register my 1991 BMW 318is, which after entering the VIN# found my car, original purchase date, color and miles when first purchased, then showed me when I do have my production or vin# on the 135i - how to enter the information and track the car!
