OK, so I missed the 12 hour rule. Technically speaking, it's my spousal unit who missed the deadline. But she didn't even know about it. And she's paid by getting a speeding ticket in Switzerland.
We spent a total of 17 days in Europe, arriving in Munich on the 1st of June, and departing Paris on the 17th.
The first night we stayed at the Sheraton 4 points in Olympiapark. Cheap at $80/night for 2 including breakfast. Utilitarian and spartan, no AC, somewhat desolate area, but served its purpose, and is only a 5 minute walk to the Welt.
We picked up Mrs. Zheeeem's 328i and, with John Cleese directing us, went directly to Beckenreid Switzerland (on Lake Luzern). Stayed at the Nidwaldnerhof, a comfortable lakefront hotel, met up with a friend who drives a Lotus Elise, and drove the old St Gottard, Furka and Grimsel passes the next day, wandering through southern Switzerland then up across the northern end of Lac Leman to the Geneva area. The Furka and Grimsel are highly recommended.
We spent 4 days in the cold pissing rain in Geneva (actually in Naz-Dessus, France) visiting friends. Nice comfortable auberge.
Then we drove south to provence to a small auberge in Les Adrets de l'Esterel. Lovely part of the world, and the weather turned warm and clear. Most of the time was spent poolside, with the occasional drive to the cote d'azur for dinner. Three nights of peace and quiet.
Then we hightailed it to Paris to drop the car off at TT auto at Roissy-CDG. Much of our driving was in the 100-120 MPH range; a clear day without much traffic on the autoroute. Dropoff in Paris was fast and painless. Then we spent a week in Paris where I worked most of the time. Hotel links and photos follow.
For those of you EDers thinking about driving swiss passes, I can highly recommend the Nidwaldnerhof. The location is excellent; very close to many passes. It was reasonable at 220 CHF for 2, and the resto is not bad. The view from the room is excellent.
Les Adrets is also a good jumping off point for provence and cote d'azure. It is not so crowded (and the auberge actually only has 8 rooms). But it's less than about 30 minutes to Cannes, Grasse and a few other spots. (Another spot we like down here is Cassis, but our favourite hotel was fully booked.)
Looks like you had a great trip, congrats on the new ride.
